Why Libertarian?

I was a lifelong Republican. My first vote was in ’84 for Reagan. But that is over. A little paraphrasing of Reagan is in order. I didn’t leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me. I can no longer in good conscience think that the Republican Party can be brought back to its conservative roots. On further reflection and education I have come to realize that a 2 party system is NOT conducive to liberty. We are seeing the end game right now.

I have had libertarian leanings for quite a while but did not like the lack of activity in the Libertarian Party. Libertarian’s views mirror a lot of what is found in our Constitution. But running for President and forgetting about most of the other thousands of local and state seats available seemed disingenuous to me. How could they be successful without ground roots support and candidates running for offices that could actually win? The answer is they cannot by using that formula. Building the movement top down seems like a loser to me.

So why Libertarian? Why now?

The simple answer is that the 2 party system is not working. The establishment of both parties like the current system. They are akin to Coke and Pepsi. Competitors, but very comfortable knowing who the opponent is and making deals with them to keep both of them on top. Republicans anymore are the water carriers for the democrats. Don’t believe me? Why do we have Obamacare still? It could have been defunded on multiple occasions. Why has the federal deficit ballooned to over 20 Trillion since Obama has been in office? Republican support. Common Core? Their is no real opposition in either of the party’s eyes.

The Constitution is the ONLY reason that we have as free and prosperous of a country as we have. As we move away from those ideals we see the results. Neither the Democrats or the Republicans support a constitutional government anymore. That is easily observable. States have abdicated their rightful place as the defenders of the Constitution and have instead let the federal bureaucracy run roughshod over the document. This cannot continue if we are to survive as a free nation.

That is where Libertarians come in. Their core beliefs are based on a constitutionally limited federal government and state sovereignty. That is in line with the writings of most of the Founders including James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. This is the true path toward liberty and prosperity. The federal government is the problem, not the solution. That is not just rhetoric. It is the truth.

As I read the Libertarian Party of Florida’s (https://lpf.org/) website I was instilled with hope. This is a list of their principles that they promote and defend:

  • Recognizing freedom of speech, religion, and association
  •  Demanding Constitutionally-limited government
  •  Ensuring minimal taxation and balanced budgets
  •  Defending property rights
  •  Asserting sovereignty of the State from unconstitutional federal interference
  •  Asserting sovereignty of the Republic from unconstitutional international interference
  •  Upholding the Second Amendment and the absolute right to self defense
  •  Promoting a true free market economy
  •  Defending personal privacy and the Fourth Amendment
  •  Promoting strong national defense through a Constitutional foreign policy
  •  Ending government corruption
  •  Ensuring no individual, corporation or government is above the rule of law
  •  Ending prohibitions on all personal activities that do not infringe upon the rights of others

These are powerful points and have much deeper meanings than a casual observation would reveal. Washington DC is broken and is not going to fix itself. That’s where the states come in. The states have the constitutional power to again limit the power of the federal government. They cannot change federal law but within their respective states they are more powerful that the federal government and need not abide by unconstitutional decisions. Our state governments first duty is to protect the rights of its citizens from ALL who would infringe on them. Governments do not give us rights, they were created to protect those rights. Think about that the next time a politician is yapping it up on the campaign trail.

Here in Florida it is reported that over 25% of the voters are NPA. They have no love for the Republicans or Democrats. I believe as the Libertarian message is spread that many will flock to the Libertarian banner. Who out there is against liberty and prosperity? The answer to that is the Republican and Democratic leadership. Both of those parties are in trouble because more and more people are waking up to the fact that they increasingly represent what is wrong with America. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump? Those are the best people we have out of the 330.000.000+ people in the United States? That’s what the Republican and Democratic leadership wants you to believe. Do not trust the Washington DC Cartel.

People need to start voting FOR something instead of being scared into voting AGAINST something. We see where the lesser of two evils have gotten us. We need a voice that is for liberty and on every issue takes the correct long term stance. That is the Libertarian Party. Pro-liberty. Pro-Constitution. Anti-tyranny. Anti-aggression. For America. For the Future. Be Libertarian for one election. It feels good to vote FOR something.
