A Way Support Our Troops

Many people claim to support our troops. They admire the sacrifice our service men and women have made to serve this country. These heroes realize that when they sign up, they are putting their lives on the line to keep us a free nation, and we honor them for that.

Most people will defend them when they are erroneously smeared, and we mourn when they are killed. I believe peoples’ sincerity when they state these beliefs. But there is something we the people can do, and do right now, that would truly be supportive of our men and women in the armed forces—  we could bring them home.

These brave men and women put their lives into others peoples’ hands to protect our country. They take an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies—  foreign and domestic. That is their charge.

The people who put them in harm’s way, Congress and the President, also take the same oath.  A big problem we have today is Washington sending Americans to various destinations around the world illegally. These politicians are breaking their oath. Invariably, some Americans are killed because their jobs are dangerous. I would think that sending troops around the world to be put into danger and possibly die which is not supported by our laws would upset more people that it does.

Maybe it is ignorance of the Constitution. Maybe they have the erroneous idea that we need to be the policeman for the world. Maybe they haven’t put two and two together yet. Whatever the reason, it is misguided, and it needs to be corrected. The results are the loss hundreds and thousands of American lives to unlawful acts by our government— men and women we supposedly cherish.

To some of us, the Constitution is still the supreme law of the land. We believe that the structure of our government needs to return to its original size and intent. We realize that our politicians are breaking the law on a regular basis, and in this case, the sending of troops to foreign lands without a declaration of war is resulting in the deaths of servicemen.  It is unacceptable.

Every President and Congress since I have been alive has engaged in conflicts that are contrary to our Constitution. The last time we declared war was in 1941 when the United States entered into WW II. Ever since then, every “war” we have engaged in has been illegal and not supported by law.

Either we are a nation of laws or we are not. There is no middle ground.

According to my research, we have between 600-900 bases worldwide. Even one base overseas is too many. None of those are authorized by law. We put American personnel at risk for nothing. Well, not exactly nothing— people make a lot of money because of these deployments. When an ordinance is used, companies make money replacing it. Private contractors who do the jobs the military used to do are employed at exorbitant prices while their employers make even more money. A lot of what is destroyed is often rebuilt by American corporations who profit immensely. Americans overseas equate to large profits for huge corporations. This is another in a long line of unlawful redistributions of wealth, but this one invariably costs us American lives.

President Eisenhower warned us about this on January 17, 1961. In his farewell speech, he warned us of the military-industrial complex. He was very direct in his discussion on this topic. He warned that a large armament industry could lead us to abandon our “peaceful methods and goals.” “Only an alert and knowledgeable citizen can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense, with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty can prosper together.” That was the end of his speech. Powerful stuff coming from a President who was also the Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Western Europe during WW II. Why don’t we heed his words?

So what I suggest is that we make it an issue. We need to confront politicians and let them know how we feel. Support the narrative. Bring our troops home. There is nothing of enough value overseas that is worth even one American life.

When more troops are killed, remember that it could have been avoided. That son or daughter, mother or father would be alive today if we abided by the law. Capitulating to the whims of war hawks and those who profit from our unlawful activities is no longer an option. If you truly support the military then do the right thing, support bringing our troops home. The unlawful and immoral actions of those who break their oaths of office to put these true Americans in harm’s way must be stopped. Support the Constitution and the young men and women who swear to protect it. Bring them home.

Article 2 Section 2: Why War is Necessary: Not What you Think

I have just seen another story that misrepresents the whole war powers argument. Both stories I read were from reputable sources and both stated that Article 1 Section 8 clause 11, which states “To declare War,Grant Letters of Marque and reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water” under the enumerated powers of Congress was end all be all of war. That is not true. When people understand the whole truth it makes much more sense and reveals a lie that has been spread for decades.

Article 2 Section 2 tells the rest of the story. It reads: “The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States”. That means simply that the President is only the Commander in Chief when there is a war that is declared. The Congress is the one who declares war and they are in charge of the military the rest of the time.

The idea is simple. When there is no war the armed forces should not be deployed. They need no immediate leadership to guide them through important situations. This time would be used organizing and training the troops. But when war is declared, it must be one person who leads the military. War by committee has some awful drawbacks with the most serious being quick decisions that may be needed. It is not that the President was thought to be going to the front lines but there needs to be a civilian authority who oversees the big picture of what needs to be done. He is the one to make the decisions that affect the course of the war effort. The President is also checked by the Congress if he gets out of control. Congress can easily take back control of the military with a vote. This is a major check and balance.

The Founders never envisioned the President being the full time Commander in Chief. The whole idea of the War Powers Act and the use of AUMF (Authorization to Use Military Force) is in violation of the simple meaning of the Constitution. On this point the document is quite clear. It is not convenient for those who want aggressive actions taken, but that is how the Constitution is structured.

When war is declared a number of things change. Enemy combatants become a reality. Interactions with the declared enemy becomes illegal. The rules on the high seas change and many other lawful acts are initiated. There is much upheaval caused when a war is declared in addition to the actual fighting. One other interesting point,  it is recognized that after a declaration of war that the enemies are given a chance to make amends before hostilities can commence.

Washington DC wants it both ways. No declaration of war but a way to initiate hostilities when convenient. A President who is in full time control of the military, taking the burden off of Congress. The power to tell the President when he can go into battle without declaring a war. In this the press has been complicit. How many times have you heard the President referred to as the Commander in Chief? The United States has not declared war since 1941 initiating our entry into WW II. That is the last time a President has rightfully been the CIC.

I write this because President Trump has just taken the action of sending missiles against a sovereign country, Syria. There has been no declaration of war. The United States is supposed to take the high moral road but in this case like so many others as of late we are breaking our own laws to invade a sovereign country. Our blatant statements about regime change are repugnant to this American. Unless it is a threat to the security of our country then American lives nor resources should not be expended. In cases of true threat or where we need to engage in war then we declare war and fight accordingly. We should respect the sovereignty of other countries like we want our sovereignty respected.

Atrocities were committed in Syria. That is not being questioned. What is being questioned is how relevant the Constitution is anymore. I fear for our future if we continue to disregard the Constitution of the United States so often and so completely.

President Trump. Stealth Conservative?

I am a constitutional conservative. I was a vociferous anti-Trumper during his campaign for President. I attacked him on most of what he said because of its opposition to the Constitution. His rhetoric indicated that he didn’t care about the Bill of Rights and had made  statements against every one of the ten amendments other than the 3rd. Trump on numerous occasions reminded us that he was in no way a conservative. Based on his stances on numerous issues I did not doubt the sincerity of his words.

Then came the time he actually became President.

The very first thing Trump did in office was sign an executive order which gave federal agencies the power to roll back some aspects of the Affordable Care Act. This included the individual mandate that most opposed. I applauded the move but I still had my doubts. This occurred on Friday after he took the oath to office.

The next Monday he took his pen and withdrew us from the TPP. Many criticized this plan when Obama was supporting it and I agreed that the process and result involved with this treaty was flawed. Trump had indicated during the campaign that he could and would make better deals for America and on this I did believe him. On Monday he also stated that NAFTA would be looked at and some changes made to help support America and Americans. I supported this effort but still had my doubts.

On Tuesday he got my attention. Trump signed an order reinstating the building of the Keystone XL pipeline. Ehh. He then signed an order reinstating a Reagan era ban on any foreign monetary support of abortion. More interested. But the BIG thing he addressed this day was federal hiring. He put a freeze on all federal hiring except for public safety and the military. This was done to support his “long-term plan to reduce the size of the Federal Government’s workforce through attrition.” Now I was starting to perk up to the Donald., actually taking steps to reduce the size of government. It doesn’t get much more conservative than that.

On Wednesday, the 25th, Trump really got my full attention. He signed an executive order which restarted the construction of a wall along our southern border. He further ordered the hiring of 10,000 more I.C. E. agents and 5000 more border patrols. He rescinded the order known as “catch and release” which was making efforts to combat illegal entry into the country much harder. In conjunction with his firing of Daniel Ragsdale as head of I.C.E. and his appointment of Thomas Homan, Trump began to fulfill a promise made to the American people over 3 decades old. Trump was acting on the illegal alien issue that most Americans recognize as a problem. He has actually fulfilled a campaign promise that some had criticized him for because they believed it was an empty promise.

On the eve of his first week in office, Trump put a hold on all refugee immigration, an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees and a 120 day ban on immigration from 7 countries. Liberals at this point threw a hypocritical hissy fit and a district judge blocked the order. Another campaign promise kept. I was hooked at this point.

On Monday, the 30th, Trump again performs one of the most conservative actions I have ever seen in my lifetime. He wrote an executive order stating that for every new regulation to be instituted, 2 other regulations must be rescinded. He did this to “help small business”. Trump had made previous statements saying that he wanted to “cut 75% of federal regulations”. I was a full blown supporter at this stage. Then he really sealed the deal. Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch, a recognized conservative and originalist, to the Supreme Court. Mr. Gorsuch is the perfect replacement to Scalia. This move is one that will be paying dividends for many years to come.

Recently. on Wednesday the 22nd, Trump lifted the highly controversial Obama backed transgender bathroom regulation. Another blow to liberals and their strange and destructive ideology. Another feather in his conservative cap.

What Trump is doing has made this conservative very happy. I support principles, not men, and when a man or woman supports the ideas I do then they will get my backing. When they deviate from what I think is right then I will criticize them. I am no Trumper nor am I riding on the Trump Train. What I am doing is supporting a man who has entered office, made good on his campaign promises and supported the conservative cause in the process. I still do not believe that Trump is in any way a conservative. I do think that he is just another American who sees big problems with the direction this country has taken and is trying to move us back toward prosperity. His initial acts have been conservative because that is what this country needs. I remain cautiously optimistic  about President Trump and his wish to “Make America Great Again”. If he slips I will be there to point it out but for the meantime I support President Trump from the attacks of the left and those on the right who remain anti-Trump to the point of refusing reality.

The Constitution IS America

THE reason that we have had the most prosperous and free country to ever grace the face of the earth is because of our Constitution. It was a revolutionary document which allowed the people to rule themselves by creating a federal government of specific enumerated powers. It formalized a way for government to be replaced regularly without the use of violence. Many others living outside of America when the Constitution was ratified had running bets as to how long the republic would last. We beat the odds and became the beacon of freedom for the world. The Constitution literally created The United States of America.

When we turn our backs on the Constitution we turn our backs on our country. If we allow the Constitution to be attacked we allow America to be degraded. We have a wildly out of control federal government that ignores the laws with impunity and tells us everything is all right. We the people have become complacent and through ignorance have allowed our creation to be our ruler. Government is a force. It needs to be constrained. It is much like fire. It can do many good things but left unattended it can harm and kill. Washington DC is out of control and unless we shackle the beast we will witness the dissolution of our country. Yes, it can happen here. We are not immune from the ravages of historical fact.

The ignorance about the “Law of the Land” is agonizing to witness. The Constitution is a relatively short document and can easily be read in under an hour. Most have not done so. It becomes apparent when interacting with them. Understand this: The Constitution is indeed the law of the land. NO local ordinance, federal regulation, executive order, treaty, state law, federal law, opinion or any other utterance by elected officials has superiority to what is written in the Constitution.

If anything coming out of any government is in defiance of the clear and precise language of the Constitution of the United States it is by definition unconstitutional and void of relevance. That includes any branch of the federal government including the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court does not make law. They issue opinions. They also are humans and make mistakes and have human failings which make them fallible. The Supreme Court was created by the Constitution and to think they are the final arbiters of what is constitutional is another fallacy that needs to be dispelled if we are to remain a free nation. If you think that the Supreme Court is the final arbiter of what is constitutional then you give the federal government unlimited power to do what it wants which is exactly what we have been witnessing. It must end.

Realize that there are enemies to our country who live among us. They are working toward a socialist form of government which is diametrically opposed to freedom and what this country was founded upon. They continually push for bigger and more intrusive government in out lives. They dismiss the Constitution as an outdated document that needs to be rewritten, replaced or just ignored.

What is most unfortunate is that through patriot’s inaction we have allowed a whole generation of Americans to be taught of the faults of this country and none of the grandeur we have accomplished. Our country had been reduced to slavery and oppression in the eyes of many. We have to date lost the battle of education. That must also change for us to survive as a free nation.

George Washington said it best :

A primary object should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? And what duty more pressing than communicating it to those who are to be the future guardians of the liberties of the country? ”

No truer words have been spoken and the enemies of our country HAVE learned this lesson. We need to support the truth and educate our children in this truth. We cannot rely on the schools to do this. We need to take this task to heart and act accordingly.

It is up to YOU to do something. No one else is going to do your job for you. I realize the teachings of history. The majority is not who makes changes. Changes come when a minority of the people with a majority of the will demands and makes the change. The rest of the people just follow along. It is unfortunate but it is the truth. I am talking to a small minority of people, probably in the 3% range. We must make the changes needed for our country to survive. Make no mistake, I am talking about our survival here. We are moving toward a precipice that will engulf us in tyranny and end our nation as we know it.

So what can you do? First get educated. Do not rely on others to tell you what is in the Constitution. Read and study it yourself. There are many resources to get this knowledge. KrisAnne Hall is a person that has never lead me astray and a person whose writings and words I highly recommend. Reject the idea that the Constitution is a “living” document or it is irrelevant in our modern times. Those two arguments are easily dispelled by the educated person.

The Constitution is a compact between sovereign states to create a federal government. Compact means contract. This “contract” is still in force and is still as relevant as when it was written. It has a specific meaning and its interpretation is not subject to modern day ideals.”

Use as much original documentation as you can find for this education. The Federalist Papers, historical writings between our founders and the actual document are all you need to be way ahead of most people when it comes to understanding the meaning and relevance of the Constitution. Read about the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Madison, Jefferson, Hamilton, Jay. Martin, Henry, Adams, Washington, and others of the era depict exactly what our Constitution is all about. I say use original documents because there is plenty out there which is written on the subject and is not accurate of the true meaning of the Constitution. Most Americans have been lied to about what is contained in our founding document. Education is the cornerstone of liberty.

When you do get educated spread the truth far and wide. Liberty lives in the hearts of man and can be rekindled by support of the idea. Speak boldly. Speak the truth. Inspire others to do the same. As things get worse in our country more people start questioning the status quo and want answers. Be able to give them the correct answers. This will lead to a better understanding of the principles this country was founded upon and lead to better results in all things. With a proper education we can identify the true problems in this country and take effective action to combat those problems. Candidates who understand the Constitution will gain more support and we can start to populate our local and state governments with patriots and statesmen once again. The conversation of the day will once more turn to politics and through this dialogue we will find liberty.

Understand what is at stake. We have been left the most precious present ever to be bequeathed to a people-liberty. It was  gained by the blood and suffering of many before us and are obligated to pass that down to future generations. Our country was a true miracle in its birth. So many things were against us yet we pushed through them and became a nation. Miracles do not happen with regularity. That is why they are a miracle. Do not forsake that miracle because you depended on someone else to do the work. YOU are part of the solution. Not anyone else. Do not doom our children and countless millions of others to follow to have to fight and die once again for something that we let slip away.

I will leave you with this thought from Thomas Jefferson:

“In matters of style swim with the current. In matters of principle stand like a rock.”

Join me at Constitutional Cappuccino to get plugged into a website that is all about the education Americans need to move our country back to its proper trajectory. My new book “Patriot Ammo: The Words Behind Our Flag” is also available and teaches of our founding documents and principles. The book would make a great present for anybody 16 and up.

The Race to the Bottom- The 2016 Presidential Election

What we are seeing is a race to the bottom in the 2016 presidential election. All sides are using fear of their opponents to motivate people to vote for them. I have previously written about this and the theory is standing the test of time.

There is a reason for this. None of the candidates- Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, nor Harry Brown are the best nor brightest of their parties. Just the opposite is the case. What we will see is a continuing program of smearing the candidates because there is little to say in actual support of these nominees.

Donald Trump. He is a serial liar. That is easy to prove. He was a self proclaimed New York liberal for the majority of his life and suddenly saw the light and became a Republican. He has no record to run on that supports his current stances. Sure, he SAYS some good things but contradictions can be found on all of his positions- illegal immigration and the wall, taxes, the 2nd Amendment, support for Hillary, Obamacare and single payer health care. The list is extensive. He cannot be trusted by anyone who does even a modicum of research. What is becoming apparent and will really be expanded on is his shady past. He has to win the nomination before the torrent is turned on,  but after that the 100’s of reporters doing their work will report on his history. His previous life will be laid bare and it will not be a pretty picture. Remember, all the media has to do is paint a picture that this greedy capitalist homophobic racist warmonger will destroy the country. They have only to make Bernie  and Hillary supporters believe that. That is the winning path for Hillary.

Hillary Clinton. 40+ years of lying and corruption surround her. There are people voting who weren’t even conceived while Hillary was perfecting her craft of lying and corruption. From her initial participation in the Watergate investigation in the early 70’s and subsequent expulsion for unethical behavior to her most recent dodging of an indictment in her handling of sensitive materials on an unsecured e-mail server- her record as an elected official and public servant is abysmal. She has accomplished nothing of significance in her time in office. She sponsored some inconsequential legislation as a Senator in New York and had a horrible record in the State Department. Her involvement in Benghazi and the deaths there, 6 Billion dollars missing, the sale of Uranium to Russia, the Iran Nuke Deal, and her support of the Arab “Spring” which have all had horrible repercussions. She also has little to give supporters as a reason to support her. Sure she is a woman. So was Lizzy Borden. So was Typhoid Mary.

Harry Brown. He is the best in the crowd and does have some actual success in an executive position as Governor of New Mexico. Yet he too has slipped into the “A vote for Johnson is a vote against Hillary and Trump. How can it get any better?” He is not a good example of a Libertarian. The principled supporter finds it hard to support him in some of his positions. His stance on government intrusion into business affairs is astounding to see. He stated that the intentions of a baker in withholding their services matters to as whether the government comes in and forces the baking of the cake. I cannot believe a Libertarian said that. He calls for the force of government being used to make a baker bake a cake under certain politically correct circumstances. Pretty disturbing to the principled libertarian. His stance on immigration is NOT the mainstream view in the Libertarian Party. That is the Libertopian stance that is a minority with a loud voice that is being amplified by the media. One thing the media downplays or simply does not report on is the elimination of all government subsidies to immigrants in most of these “open border” scenarios. Lastly, his recent support of Hillary concerning her e-mail scandal made no sense. Listen to his comments on the matter. He doesn’t want to be a ‘stone thrower” and thinks it wasn’t her “intent” to commit a crime. Johnson has some good ideas on limiting government and instead of espousing in explicit terms what needs to be done he descends into the media dialogue and the story they want to tell. He gives little for the principled conservative or libertarian to support.

Bottom line: What we are going to continue to see is a tearing down of the candidates by their opponents and little for supporters to actually support. These attacks will continue with the opponents painted to look like a nation threatening despot. In the case of Johnson, the idea of a wasted vote or the idea that voting for him is actually a vote for Hillary/Trump will be pushed.. Just more fear tactics. This fear will be supported on all sides by the continuous castigation of the candidates. Please realize that fear of an opponent is not a reason to vote for a candidate. You are not voting FOR someone, you are voting AGAINST someone else. That is why we are at the crossroads we are. Support someone. If you cannot find someone to support then write in someone. Your vote is only wasted if you don’t vote your conscience.
